Johnson C. Smith University sophomore Charles E. Hauser, Jr. has been named a "Hercules Scholar" by The Tom Joyner Foundation. Hauser is the second JCSU student to receive this honor during the month of February. Johnson C. Smith University has been named School of the Month (SOTM) by the Foundation for February 2011. Hauser was recognized on the air (02/10/11) by the Tom Joyner Morning Show. This Visual and Performing Arts major with a concentration in Graphic Design maintains a 4.0 GPA and plans to pursue a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree upon graduation. Hauser is a production assistant for the JCSU "Bullseye" broadcast team and theatre troupe. His life motto is "An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest." He plans to pursue a career in international media marketing with a focus on news and entertainment.Established in 1998, the Tom Joyner Foundation's mission is to support Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the United States. All funds raised by and donated to the Foundation are used for scholarship support for students with financial need and to ensure the sustainability of institutions.Hauser, a native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, is a volunteer with Charlotte International House, and interned with Charlotte's Friendship Missionary Baptist providing graphic design, technology and audio/visual support.
